The friars
wore a strip of cloth on their left shoulder; its resemblance
to a stocking (calza) gave the building its present name.
It is strategically located in the heart of the historical
center on the other side of the Arno, The Oltrarno, surrounded
by remarkable works of the Renaissance (close to Boboli Gardens,
Palazzo Pitti, Piazzale Michelangelo) and it is very close to
the routes which link Florence to a network of motorways. Santa
Maria Novella Railway Station is well connected to the Convitto
by bus.
