The Convitto della Calza offers a warm and charming atmosphere either to tourists and to business men. The Convitto della Calza building, raised in the 14th century as the Hospital of San Giovanni Battista, owes its name to the congregation of Gesuati friars that occupied it beginning in 1529.

The friars wore a strip of cloth on their left shoulder; its resemblance to a stocking (calza) gave the building its present name.

It is strategically located in the heart of the historical center on the other side of the Arno, The Oltrarno, surrounded by remarkable works of the Renaissance (close to Boboli Gardens, Palazzo Pitti, Piazzale Michelangelo) and it is very close to the routes which link Florence to a network of motorways. Santa Maria Novella Railway Station is well connected to the Convitto by bus.
